Would you tell us about yourself?
I grew up in Brisbane, Australia; as a 7 year old I went to watch a school friend perform in her dance concert. I turned to my mum and said, 'that's what I want to be when I grow up!'. I started dance at 7 and now at 25 I am a professional contemporary dancer in Australia with Expressions Dance Company. I trained full-time ballet in Sydney at 17 and then moved to New York City to continue my studies in Contemporary Ballet at Joffrey Ballet School before returning home. In 2013 I became a qualified personal trainer and massage therapist and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations) online. I am very passionate about creating a specialised 'movement'; to train, inspire, support and create opportunities for up and coming dancers, athletes and fitness fanatics.
How did you start training?
As a dancer it is important to maintain cross training and incorporate aerobic exercise to give balance. I enjoyed all types of exercise growing up and have always had a passion for fitness.
What do you want to archive by training? Any goals to yourself?
I aim to achieve an efficient, balanced and healthy body. It is important that I maintain an aesthetic that compliments dance and I believe it is so important to feel strong and fit for anything life throws at me. I set new goals every training session, it's what keeps it interesting and competitive.
How has running related to your training?
I enjoy running, it's a release technique that I use to reduce stress and clear my mind. I feel like I have accomplished something great at the end of a run, no matter what distance I set for myself. It is great for my aerobic energy system. I try to throw in a few hill sprints every now and then too!
Do you remember the first moment you felt “like a fitness person”?
I don't remember the exact moment, but I believe as soon as I became a personal trainer I felt a stronger connection to fitness. I have a duty now to share and communicate my knowledge by training and inspiring people. I love what I do, I never feel like a work a day in my life, and that is very special!
Where is your most favourite gym or training place would like share with us?
I used to train at Gym Cartel Newstead, I love the vibe they have there and training alongside some awesome people. I am training myself at the moment at Goodlife but I hope to one day have my own training facility.
How do you motivate your workout classes?
I try to always go in with a plan and wear an outfit that I feel good in! I am so happy after dancing or training, the endorphin release is so addictive!
Would you share us a interesting training story?
I am a very strong advocate for pilates and yoga. I fractured my back when I was 12 and was told I would never dance again. (Like I was ever going to let that happen!) My rehabilitation process was based around physio and It was then that I was introduced to pilates. I learnt from a young age the importance of pelvic floor activation and stabilisation of the core. This has made me a stronger dancer and athlete today. I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason.
What is the number one philosophy you live by?
Live in the moment. Never stop chasing your dreams!
If we would like you to use one word or one sentence to represent your style, what would it be?
Strong, bold and chic.
Running or training with music: Yes or no? if yes, would you share us one of your favourite track?
Yes, absolutely! At the moment I just play a Spotify album (EDM/ Dance, Running or workout) anything that has a great beat and makes me train harder or faster.
What is your recipes for fitness?
I believe my body is my vehicle to success; my job, my relationships, my happiness, my release, my satisfaction, my rest, my journey, my love and my choices. To respect it with a strong and positive mind first is the key to a fit, happy, healthy body.
If you have a chance to design your own training apparel, what colour and pattern would you want to represent your active lifestyle?
The ocean radiates happiness for me, it is a huge part of my life. So, a beautiful aqua blue colour with a strong pattern or bold shapes would be fun and motivating.
