Would you tell us about yourself?
My name is Wendy. I’m a runner, a triathlete, and an entrepreneur. I’m the director and co-founder of WOW concepts, which currently has two concepts: Bao Bei (a lounge and eatery) and Bao Wow (fast casual joint expected to be re-opened in 2017), I’m also a director at TOPFIT. Last but not least, a founding core member of the Hong Kong Harbour Runners (HR). I have been running since I was 16 and have completed more than 10 races such as the Standard Chartered Marathon, Tokyo International Marathon, San Francisco Marathon, NYC marathon and the Taiwan Kenting Full Ironman. When I’m not running, I enjoy challenging myself and others in fitness as a certified NASM-CPT.
How did you start running?
My dad has been a runner for as long as I can remember. I recall admiring his dedication and discipline in finishing full marathons so I decided to sign up for my first marathon in 2006. He is the reason why I picked up on running. He is my biggest role model and motivator.
Do you run alone, mostly, or with a club or group?
Depends on the day and time, I try to mix up my runs. I usually run on my own in the morning. It’s the first thing I do when I wake up. I always put running first on my agenda as it gives me the feeling of accomplishment, as well as the extra energy I get from the morning rush of endorphins. After starting the Hong Harbour Runners in 2010, I have been running with nearly a group of 100 people every Wednesday night. It gives me the extra push and motivation that I need on certain days when I don’t feel as motivated to run.

I “felt like a runner” when I finished my first marathon
Where is your most memorable running route or place would like share with us?
The Tokyo marathon. I loved the crowd, the course, the runners, the scenery, the elevation (or lack thereof), the weather, how well-organized it was, the overall atmosphere and experience was simply amazing.
What is your favourite distance?
10-12km is my daily morning routine.
Would you share us a interesting running story?
I’ve met a lot of people and running groups from all over the world through running. Because of running, it has led me to sign up for my first full Ironman race to challenge myself. I had never ridden a bike prior to signing up and it was six months before the race. In the end, running has really taught me how to be mentally strong so I completed the whole race in under 14hours.
What is your running motivation right now?
I am working on beating my own half marathon PR which is 1 hour and 38 mins. I hope to get under 1 hour and 30 mins.

Running with music: Yes or no? if yes, would you share us one of your favorite running track?
Yes! I usually just play the EDM/Dance playlists on Spotify, it’s also a great way to catch up on new tunes. Basically anything with a great beat that will make me run faster.
What is your recipes for fitness?
1. Take a first step, however small
2. Stay consistent with your workout, one step at a time
3. Making it a routine and a part of my lifestyle
4. Challenge yourself by changing up your training
5. Stepping out of my comfort zone by trying new things
6. [Abs are made in the kitchen] – eat to stay happy and lean
If you have a chance to design your own running apparel, what colour and pattern would you want to represent your running style?
Leggings and tank tops are the staples of my running and work out (daily) attire. Above all things they have to be comfortable, then stylish and versatile enough to stay in for the rest of the day. In terms of colors, I usually find myself in monotone, recently I’ve been into earthy colors such as nude and army green. Pattern wise – floral patterns always catch my eye. The recent Nike x RT floral kaleidoscope is a good product I’ve come across lately.
